OPEN RANGE CHARTER Mission To promote respect, credibility and awareness of and for Old West re-enactment and Living History in the UK, by advocating and encouraging authenticity and historical accuracy. Membership
Open to any individual currently residing in the UK who portrays a character or characters, real or generic, from the American Old West between 1865 and 1914, irrespective of age, race, disability or gender, and who generally conforms to the requirements below. This period was chosen as it is felt earlier periods are covered by existing associations such as Soskan etc, however it does not preclude membership by individuals portraying earlier periods (Civil War, 49er etc) Prospective members will be sent explanatory literature explaining the requirements and expectations of OPEN RANGE. Once accepted, members will be issued with a Membership Card, which should be available for inspection at all times whilst at a western event. Requirements A standard of dress commensurate with the character and period portrayed. All other equipment (firearms, camps, accessories) where applicable is also to be in keeping with the period portrayed. A basic knowledge of some of the history of the Old West, in particular the period portrayed. General conduct whilst in character to be within the current UK laws, and conducive to the OPEN-RANGE mission. Structure A Committee of at least 4 people, to be re-elected periodically by the membership. The Committee is to comprise a Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Committee member without portfolio. Individual members will have one vote each. The Committee will have the authority to revoke membership of any individual who does not conform to the standards required. It will be the responsibility of all members to monitor both their own and each others appearance and behaviour, and to report to the Committee any major and prolonged deviation from the requirements which may necessitate a membership being revoked. Finance The funds of OPEN RANGE will be obtained from membership subscription, and shall be applied solely to the stated objects of the association. All expenditures shall be decided by majority vote of the committee. The Treasurer shall keep proper books of accounts showing all sums received and paid, and shall have the authority to give receipts for monies paid to OPEN-RANGE. In the event of the dissolution of OPEN-RANGE any assets after the payment of debts and liabilities shall be disposed of as the committee thinks fit. Fin May2007
